Survey Evaluation of Nursing Emergency Preparedness Training

Introduction: An effective response to CBRNE requires that frontline staff, such as nurses, are adequately trained in Emergency Preparedness (EP). Understanding the current gaps nursing knowledge of is first step creating an training program. This study assessed EP and needs among staff. Method: A web-based survey was distributed all hospital The evaluated nurses received. Staff listed types they had received were asked rate their confidence performing various disaster-related competencies or capabilities. Competency levels also surveyed those who feel; not at confident very confident. Results: previous training. 572/763 Nursing completed survey, for a 75%. Of responded, areas which have been included: preparedness radiological nuclear agents (17.66% trained), biological (22.20% chemical (27.45% hazardous materials patient decontamination (25% own role within hospital's ICS (31.29% Patient evacuation (63.61% trained) plan (54.55% trained). respondents' activities. respondents reported lacking treating patients exposed radioactive material (59.9%), agent (57.17%), procedures (54.71%). having evacuating from units, departments, hospitals (69.1%). top incentives participating “nonrequired” no costs complete (83.1%) receiving continuing education credits (79.2%). Conclusion: majority inadequate events with self-reported lack responding these events. targeted educational curriculum enhance professionals clearly indicated.
